The Bob Marley Museum

Many of us would love to be thought of as legendary one day but would you settle for the chance to visit the home of one of the greatest musical legends to ever live? A man who came from humble beginning yet managed to bring the music of his homeland to the international stage.

You guessed it I am speaking of none other than Mr. Robert Nesta Marley aka Bob Marley. The King of Reggae was born on February 6,1945 in the little quainted village of Nine Mile tucked away in the beautiful mountains of St. Ann Jamaica.Although he died young his memory has been preserved in the hearts of his fans worldwide and in the form of a museum right here in Jamaica. The museum is situated on the site of the home he purchased in 1975 in Kignston. This house, featuring 19th-century architecture, was Marley’s home until his death in 1981.

Six years later it was converted into a museum by his wife, Mrs. Rita Marley.
At the entrance you will see a statue erected in honour of the musical pioneer. The main museum (which doubled as his home and recording studio for the Tuff Gong Record Label) showcases Marley’s personal belongings including his guitar, Rastafarian cloaks and his (presumably) favourite denim shirt.

The property also features a well-equipped 80-seat theatre, a photographic gallery, and a gift shop selling T-shirts, clothing from his daughter’s line ‘Catch a Fire’, posters and CDs and other Bob Marley memorabilia as well as items from Jamaica. You can also grab a bite to eat from the restaurant on sight aptly named Legend Cafe. You will get to see every aspect of Bob Marley’s life.

The Bob Marley Museum is open to locals and tourists alike. The charge to locals is JM$500.00 for adults and JM$250.00 for children. The entry fee for tourists is US$20.00 for adults and US$10.00 for children. The tour is guided and is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes in duration. During the last 20 minutes you will be treated to film of Bob Marley’s last days.

The Museum is open Mondays to Saturdays and is closed on Sundays. To get access to the restaurant after hours will require reservations. The first tour begins at 9:30am and the last tour begins at 4:00pm. Keep in mind just might get to see his famous sons when they visit to use the studio.
